Micro-irrigation that is. Micro-irrigation is the new ‘hot trend’ in the world of landscaping as it’s the newest way of keeping plants hydrated, keeping water bills low and keeping lawns and landscaping from becoming flooded. The method of micro irrigation is a method of applying water through plastic tubing and emitters at low pressure to only specific plants and/or areas of the landscaped design. Shrubs, flowers, trees, vegetable gardens and contained plants (such as in baskets or on patios) are all ideal candidates for micro-irrigation as water waste and runoff are reduced in this process of landscaping hydration.

Installing a micro-irrigation into a landscaping design is relatively easy and nearly maintenance free. By arranging and/or designing plants, shrubs and vegetable gardens around a micro-irrigation system will allow for healthier plants and a healthier lawn. The main process is knowing what emitters to use, how much plastic tubing to use and where to install the system. Each system can easily be attached to an existing automatic lawn system, a faucet or even a hose and can be concealed under mulch or installed above ground. The main key in sustaining a micro-irrigation system is to check often for leaks or over and or under watering. With successful installation, a professional or personal landscaper can experience a hydrated plants, shrubs and gardens without the worry of a flooded lawn.

Landscaping designs that incorporate a micro-irrigation system will experience a 10 to 25 percent reduced water use and will easily comply with any and all water restrictions, regardless of location.
